Wenger was said to be "furious" at the sorry nature of his side's complete and utter capitulation.

He singled out Alexis Sanchez for particular scorn, with the Chile striker being on the brink of a move to Manchester City.

The result of the showdown was Wenger making clear he is not prepared to tolerate any player not fully committed to the cause.

And for Sanchez's case in particular, Wenger was reportedly worried his star man's mind was somewhere else.

The general state of affairs at the Emirates is bleak, with the club deemed in crisis just three games into the season.

Some Arsenal players are reportedly happy to see Sanchez sold as soon as possible with the contract rebel "souring the mood" at the club.

They may not have to wait much longer with the potential of losing him for nothing at the end of the season - when his contract expires - very real.

Wenger has maintained that Sanchez will go nowhere.

But big-money offers from City and Manchester United's reported interest could tempt the shrewd Frenchman into cashing in.

Arsenal have already lost Kieran Gibbs to West Brom for £7m.

And Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has rejected a £40m Chelsea switch because he wants to move to Liverpool.
