Harry Maguire has all the tools to make it big with England says Rio Ferdinand
Three Lions legend backs the new Leicester centre-back to justify his first call-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior squad
RIO FERDINAND believes Harry Maguire has all the tools to make it with England.
New Leicester centre-back Maguire was called into Gareth Southgate’s squad for the first time this week.
Despite going down 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday, Maguire stood out for United legend Ferdinand.
He said: “I thought he was outstanding. Every question asked of him he answered.
“He headed everything clear and was composed on the ball as well.
“Harry has shown in the first couple of games he has the personality to come out in these big stadiums and perform. But you have to do it on a consistent basis before you can say you’re an England player.”
Maguire shackled Romelu Lukaku, who had scored three times in his previous two games for United.
And boss Craig Shakespeare said: “I hope he goes from strength to strength. He’s been a terrific signing.

“I thought he was very solid against one of the best strikers.”
Maguire hardly gave Lukaku an inch of space, although Marcus Rashford had far too much as the Foxes again conceded from a set-piece.
Shakey added: “You get punished if you switch off — and it’s something we need to put right.”
