Gary Neville leads savage onslaught of ‘pathetic’ and ‘disgraceful’ Arsenal after they’re smashed at Liverpool

Pundit joked that he'd 'put the whole squad on the transfer list'

Gary Neville led a savage onslaught on Arsenal’s Anfield flops, describing them as “pathetic” and “disgraceful”.

And the Sky pundit said their entire outfield squad deserved to be put on the transfer list – but the club would not find any takers based on this performance.

Former Manchester United skipper Neville stormed: “I’m fuming. There’s three or more Arsenal players who want a move - but looking at this, who would buy them?

“The only positive for Arsene Wenger is that there are still a few days left of the transfer window for him to get rid of as many of these as he can.

“I’d put the whole lot of them on the transfer list. They would end up with a better club than they’ve got out there now. At times it was absolutely pathetic

“The lack of respect by three or four players for the shirt is disgraceful at such a great club.”

He was backed up by fellow Sky analyst Graeme Souness, who said Arsenal’s toothless performance defied belief – and cranked up the pressure on Wenger.

Souness said: “I’ve officially given up with Arsenal. They are really classy and you hope they will show you something and have turned that corner – but they’ve taken one giant step backwards.

“That is a performance that gets manager the sack – wishy-washy, pussyfooted. To be able to accept that performance is beyond belief.”

But former Liverpool boss Souness said Wenger had to take his share of the blame for this hiding.

He added: “I have been saying the same thing about Arsenal for the last ten years. They need a couple of good defensive midfielders to protect the back four, and let the flair players go and play.

“It’s simple. You tell your holding midfielders Liverpool always start like they’re on fire here, so for the first 10-15 minutes you don’t go in front of the ball.

“But Arsenal are like a group of schoolboys thrown out there, and told: ‘Go and win the game boys’.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said Arsenal were playing the price because chief executive Ivan Gazidis would not take the tough decision to end Wenger’s 21 year reign as Arsenal manager in May.

Carragher commented: “They bottled it last summer. They were scared of letting a club legend go and thought things would change this season.

“They were cowards. Gazidis talked about a catalyst for change this season, but it hasn’t changed.

“We criticise Chelsea about changing managers, but everything is too nice at Arsenal.

“And there is no ruthlessness onto the pitch – get used to it for the next two years. Those kind of performances got him two more years?

“What if these players do stay? They were a disgrace today. What have they done?– can they be any worse than today?”
