Local reports reveal the incident took place in the town of Falesici near Srebrenik.

At this point, it is unclear exactly why Meho Besic was the victim of the attack, however, he does have serious issues with alcohol and gambling.

The incident comes just days after former Dinamo Zagreb manager Zdravko Mamic was shot in a reported assassination attempt in nearby Croatia.

It is likely Besic will miss Everton's clash with Chelsea as he rushes to his father's side.

Ronald Koeman's men travel to Stamford Bridge as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Besic played the final minutes of the draw at Manchester City when he came on in stoppage time to replace Wayne Rooney.

He also played home and away in the Europa League play-off clashes with Hajduk Split.

The Bosnia international joined from Ferencvaros in 2014.

However, he is yet to score for the Toffees.
