WEST HAM have reportedly set their sights on Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira as a back up if their attempts at landing William Carvalho fall short.

The Hammers have been in pole position to secure Carvalho but are apparently frustrated as Lisbon continue to hold out for more cash.

After long negotiations, Sporting Lisbon have stalled proceedings according to the Mirror and are reluctant to lose the 25-year-old for less than £36million.

Slaven Bilic is still keen to land his top target and was said to be closing in on a £32m deal.

But he will be ready to switch his attention to Pereira if the Hammers and Lisbon can't come to an agreement.

The Portuguese defensive midfielder has spent the past two seasons at Porto scoring ten goals in 61 appearances to draw attention from around the Premier League.

Though Bilic may also have a tough time in striking a deal with Porto, who also seem keen to hold on to their player.

Earlier this year the Portuguese side bumped up the 25-year-old's release clause to £51m amid interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Pereira has been on the radar of the Premier League clubs' scouts and West Ham would be willing to ramp up their efforts to bring him to the London Stadium.

The Guinea Bissau born player has won 22 caps for Portugal which included winning the Euro 2016 alongside Carvalho.

Another option for Bilic in midfield is Benfica's Ljubomir Fejsa who after winning ten consecutive league titles in three countries since 2008 has earned the nickname of 'Mr Success'.
