His agent has confirmed his client has handed in a transfer request to leave the club after struggling for game time under Arsene Wenger.

The striker is seeking regular first-team football after scoring seven goals in 21 appearances for Arsenal last season.

And following the £52m arrival of Alexandre Lacazette, the 28-year-old appears to have slipped further down the pecking order.

The former Deportivo La Coruna star's agent, Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle, believes Arsenal's price tag is too steep.

He told Goal: "€15m (£13.4m) is an expensive price.

“Lucas wants to go to the World Cup and be happy at a place where he has opportunities to play.”

Perez's agent insists the wantaway striker is looking to feature for Spain at the 2018 World Cup in Russia - but he is yet to represent his nation so far in his career.

The former PAOK star has been linked with a number of clubs including a return to Deportivo and Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Newcastle are the latest club to be linked with Perez, with Rafa Benitez keen on signing his fellow countryman.

Wenger has pleaded with the forward to stay at the Emirates but he will be willing to accept an offer if the price is right.
