Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has £20m bid rejected by Leicester for Demarai Gray

Leicester turn down a £20m bid for England Under-21 starlet Demarai Gray following speculation of his departure

LEICESTER CITY stand firm in keeping their promising winger Demarai Gray - rejecting a £20m offer from the Cherries.

Craig Shakespeare claims the England U21 international is 'happy' to stay at Leicester, despite rumours linking him away from the club.

Bournemouth were the first to make an official bid, but Leicester put their foot down saying that he is not for sale.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund all showed interest in the player, whose head was close to turning.

Gray was reportedly frustrated at his lack of starts since joining from Birmingham City in 2016.

Despite making 30 appearances in the Premier League last season, only nine of those were starts, with the other 21 coming from the bench.

The 21-year-old still managed to produce one goal and three assists - with the highlight being his wonder-strike in Leicester's 4-1 FA cup win at Old Trafford.

Gray made his debut for the England Under-21 team in a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in March 2016, and has since earned 11 caps for his country.

Eddie Howe has gone about his transfer business smartly this summer - bringing in four players for £30m.

A double swoop into the Chelsea ranks saw the Cherries sign keeper Asmir Begovic, and make Dutch centre-back Nathan Ake's loan move permanent.

Howe also convinced veteran Premier League striker, Jermaine Defoe, to join from relegated Sunderland.

Continuing his theme of developing young English talent, the Bournemouth boss picked up 20-year-old Connor Mahoney from Blackburn Rovers.
