SunSport have been told the 16-year-old is nearing a move to Manchester United due to the newly promoted Championship side's close working relationship the Reds.

Club owners Ken Anderson and his son Lee are former agents and still have a good working relationship with the Old Trafford hierarchy.

United Academy boss Nicky Butt has been playing catch-up since taking over the role and this summer has drafted in a host of youngsters into the Carrington set-up.

United are prepared to pay £1million plus add-ons for Broughton to head off competition from other Premier League suitors.

United have signed highly rated French youngster Aliou Traore from Paris Saint-Germain and Belgian striker Largie Ramazani.
They have also recruited Chelsea kid Di’Shon Bernard and Northern Irish teenager Ethan Gailbraith.

Broughton was spotted playing for local team Rossendale United before being given a trial by the Trotters in October 2014.
He impressed the staff and was signed up on a scholarship in December 2015.

Bolton are back in the Championship this season and boss Phil Parkinson was set to make Broughton part of his first-team plans.

Parkinson has admitted the Lancashire side will struggle to keep the midfielder at the Macron stadium unable to fend off any offers from Premier League clubs if they made a firm offer for Broughton.
