ARSENAL kick-off their pre-season with their first trip to Australia in over 40-years, as they prepare to face the 2016/17 A-League Champions at the Allianz Stadium.

Arsene Wenger's side will enter the clash as firm favourites, but Sydney FC will be looking to carry last season's remarkable form into the fixture on Thursday, July 13.

This meeting marks the start of another year in charge of the EPL giants for Arsene Wenger, despite speculation surrounding his future towards the latter stages of last season.

The Gunners will spend the bulk of their pre-season in London, but they have a handful of fixtures planned away from home in preparation for the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Emirates Cup is set to bring an end to the pre-season friendlies, which will begin on Saturday,  July 29.

Will Alexandre Lacazette start for Arsenal?

Lacazette flew out to Australia on Monday with the rest of the squad.

And Arsene Wenger is set to waste no time giving the club's record signing a run out.

The Gunners boss confirmed that the former Lyon man WILL make his first appearance against Sydney FC.

Wenger said: "Lacazette will make his debut here on Thursday night and will play again on Saturday [against Western Sydney Wanderers]."

What you need to know about Sydney FC

The Australian outfit won the title last season, finishing the league with an impressive 66 points.

The side has won three A-League Championships, two Premierships and they remain to be the only A-League side to have won the OFC Champions League.

Their top scorer last season was Alex Brosque, with 11 league goals.

The 33-year-old captains Graham Arnold's side, so he will be looking to ruffle a few feathers within the Arsenal back-four.
