But despite helping Los Blancos win two successive Champions Leagues, Navas’ place in Zinedine Zidane’s team is under threat.

Real are determined to make a marquee signing ahead of the new La Liga season.

But with the team already boasting the world’s top talents in defence, midfielder and attack, it seems a new keeper is on the agenda.

Manchester United favourite David De Gea is top of Real’s wishlist and came close to joining them two years ago.

Chelsea ace Thibaut Courtois and AC Milan youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma have also been linked recently.

But Navas is determined to put up a battle for his place in the team, telling Marca: “I’m very calm, really. I focus on what I can do, which is to work, to strive and to try to keep my position in the team.

“I will always fight to the death against whatever, a real fight. Whatever happens I am going to give everything, as always.”

Reflecting on Real’s recent success under Zidane, Navas added: “I have no words to thank Zidane. I am very happy, he has given me a lot of encouragement.

“We have really enjoyed the Champions League wins, but there is already a pre-season where we have to work to the fullest.

“In Madrid you always have to think that you have to win everything that comes. La Liga, Champions League – we want everything and hopefully at the end of the season we can be just as happy as now.”
