West Ham in the market to sign Javier Hernandez with former Manchester United striker fitting bill for proven goalscorer

JAVIER HERNANDEZ is a top target for West Ham as the East London club search for a striker to fire them up the Premier League table.

The Hammers are desperate for someone who can provide reliable goals and according to reports, they could make a move for the 29-year-old.

Hernandez is still well regarded at Manchester United and Jose Mourinho even professed how he would have loved to have the Mexican still at Old Trafford.

Chicharito moved to Bayer Leverkusen after being sold by Louis van Gaal in 2015.

And he has struck 28 goals in 54 games for the Bundesliga club.

Hernandez was mostly used as an impact sub during his five years at United and despite being loaned out to Real Madrid by Van Gaal, netted some huge goals for the Red Devils.

Slaven Bilic, meanwhile, is desperate for some firepower to provide the goals to keep West Ham challenging in the top half of the Premier League after a difficult spell last season.

According to ESPN, Hernandez is the latest name on the club's list of transfer targets that include Arsenal's Olivier Giroud, Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi and Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Mexican scored in his country's opening game of the Confederations Cup in the 2-2 draw with Portugal, but was unable to help them losing to the same opposition in the third-place play-off.

He turned 29 last month and was hilariously covered in birthday cake by his international team-mates.
