Tottenham need striker and should make move for Bournemouth ace Josh King, insists Tim Sherwood
Former Spurs player and coach thinks Cherries striker could provide perfect back-up to main man Harry Kane
TIM SHERWOOD has urged Tottenham to sign Bournemouth striker Josh King as back-up to main man Harry Kane.
The former Spurs boss thinks Mauricio Pochettino will look to bolster his attacking options this summer and a viable alternative to the England man has to be a priority.
It's been relentless since Kane first burst on to the scene under Sherwood in 2014, and Pochettino has relied heavily on his goals and fitness over the last two seasons.
Dutch striker Vincent Janssen flopped at White Hart Lane last term, scoring just two Premier League goals after his £17million move from AZ Alkmaar.
Sherwood insists King, who bagged 16 Premier League goals for the Cherries last season, would be the ideal man to rotate with Kane.
Sherwood told talkSPORT: "I think they need a centre-forward, but it is really important they get the right one.
"They can't buy one who expects to be first choice because Harry will obviously be first choice. For me, it would be the one at Bournemouth. I think Josh King has got loads to offer."
Sherwood added: "He runs in behind, he holds it up, he is strong, he is still developing and he would be a perfect player for the Tottenham squad. And he would get plenty of games - they are in the Champions League as well.”
Spurs could face competition from Everton for the Manchester United academy product, who moved to the Vitality from Blackburn in a cut-price £1million deal two years ago.
The Norwegian international reacted to the speculation surrounding his future by admitting he has been aware of reports clubs are showing interest.

King told the Daily Echo: "I was focusing on the season and finishing it strongly.
“But I would be a liar if I said I hadn’t noticed it, it was in most papers in England and you have got people tagging you and sending you links here and there.”
King added: "I was intrigued even being mentioned in the same sentence as Spurs, a big team who play in the Champions League.
“It is the summer holiday now and I’ve learned so much from the gaffer here.
“You never know in football but, hopefully, I will be here next year and I’m looking forward to working with the gaffer because he’s been brilliant with me since the day I set foot on the training ground.”
