MARCO SILVA has walked away from Hull - leaving the Tigers in search of their fourth boss in less than a year.

The Portuguese boss, 39, held talks with the club's chairman Assem Allam and vice-chairman Ehab Allam at a hotel on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday night.

Vice-chairman Ehab Allam said: “I had an expectation before seeing Marco on Wednesday.

"He’s done an exceptional job for us but unfortunately the way the contract was structured, had we stayed in the Premier League there would be one year left on his contract, but on relegation, unfortunately, he had the option to go.

“I fully understand why he’s gone. He was fantastic for us but I accept he’s a better calibre manager than the Championship and I understand why he wants to stay in the Premier League or to go to a big European club, with the prospect of Champions League football.

“I have a very good relationship with Marco. We’d love for him to have stayed because I got on with him so well, we had such a good rapport.

"It was so easy working for him. He is very professional, hard- working, thorough, he made life easy for me working with him.

"We supported each other which was good.

"I’m very sad to lose him but I respect and understand why he’s taken that decision.

"Although he wasn’t able to keep us up, I can understand why there is so much interest because the number of points he achieved over 18 games, if we’d have had that all season we’d have been mid-table.

"The transformation of the team, the style of play, the performances, the structure of the team, the improvements were there for all to see.

"If he got a full season somewhere else, I’m sure he’ll do a fantastic job for someone else".

The ex-Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos boss is now weighing up his options as he looks to land another job this summer.

He travelled to his home country on Tuesday for an interview over the vacant Porto position.

But Silva would prefer to stay in England and is waiting to hear what other offers he may receive.

Meanwhile, Hull will step up their search for his replacement after a year which has seen Steve Bruce, Phelan and now Silva leave.
