Southampton’s Oriol Romeu is Barcelona’s top midfield target as Spaniards make contact with former player
Anchorman came through the ranks before joining Chelsea but could now be heading back to the Nou Camp in stunning deal
BARCELONA have reportedly made former player and Southampton star Oriol Romeu their top midfield target for this summer.
The 25-year-old has been in sensational form for the Saints this season, scooping their Player of the Year award earlier this month.
Romeu came through the ranks at Barcelona but only made one senior appearance before he was snapped up by Chelsea.
A bright start for the anchorman at Stamford Bridge quickly faded and he ended up being sent on loan to Valencia and Stuttgart.
But Southampton came knocking in 2015 and Romeu has since transformed into one of the Premier League’s top midfield destroyers.
According to Marca, Barca feel they are lacking that kind of player in their squad, with Romeu also able to cover for key man Sergio Busquets in the classic No.4 role.
It’s said that Nou Camp chiefs have already made contact and Romeu is well aware his old team wants him back.
