Pogba was then replaced by Michael Carrick in what may be another key loss for Jose Mourinho.

The £89million man had a fine game at Turf Moor, rivalling goalscorer Anthony Martial as the stand-out player.

United saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo go down in Thursday's win over Anderlecht in the Europa League - both ruled out for the season.

Now United and their fans will be sweating on the fitness of their French maestro as the end of the season closes in.

Predictably, the sight of Pogba going off injured led to a flurry of worry on social media.

Andy Osaide wrote on Twitter that he hopes Pogba just "felt a bit of cramp and not because he's injured", while many used the emoji praying symbol in the hope that he is not injured.

Mohammad aimed his anger towards manager Jose Mourinho, writing that he thinks the Frenchman should have been "substituted in the 60th minute".

After the game, Mourinho refused to be drawn on the extent of any injury suffered by Pogba, but did speak about the injuries to Ibrahimovic and Rojo.

He said: "We wanted Anthony Martial to get behind as he’s faster, and he did well. But I can’t choose an individual performance as they all did well. Paul Pogba and Eric Bailley get a mention after two hours of football at against Anderlecht.

"Everyone is very sad [about Ibrahimovic and Rojo injuries]. We were thinking about them. They have to be strong. Unfortunately they wont be the first or last players to get an important injury.

"Surgery is waiting for them but don’t want to say too much as it’s their privacy."
