Manchester United forced to pay extra £8.5m to Monaco after Anthony Martial bags 25th goal for club
Martial scored his eighth goal of the season against Burnley - a stunning counter-attack during the 2-0 win
MANCHESTER UNITED will have to pay Monaco £8.5million after Anthony Martial bagged his 25th goal for the club against Burnley.
Martial, restored to the starting line up after the injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, scored a stunning opener at Turf Moor in the 2-0 win.
The strike has triggered another clause in the deal that brought the French striker to Old Trafford from Monaco in 2015.
Martial was signed on deadline day last summer, in an deal costing an initial £36m, and scored on his debut against Liverpool a few days later.
Reaching the 25 goal mark has taken longer than perhaps it should have for the 21-year-old, who was the club top scorer last season with 17.
The strike at Burnley was Martial's eighth of the season, as the striker has fallen down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho due the emergence of Marcus Rashford and goals of Ibrahimovic.
