Who was Ugo Ehiogu? Ex-England international plus Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender

FORMER England ace Ugo Ehiogu enjoyed a playing career at the highest level over a highly successful 20-year spell.

The 44-year-old made his name in the Premier League and also had spells in Scotland where he became a fan favourite by scoring in the Old Firm Derby.

Coaching Tottenham's Under-23 side, the former defender sadly suffered a cardiac arrest at Spurs' training ground on Thursday April 20.

He passed away in the early hours of today in hospital.

Who is Ugo Ehiogu?

Ugo Ehiogu is an ex Premier League football who racked up over 350 appearances in the top flight.

His career started in 1989 in the Midlands and ended 20 years later that took him through three different divisions.

Born in Homerton, Ehiogu earned his first England cap in 1996 and went onto represent his country four times.

He bagged his only goal for the Three Lions in a 3-0 victory over Spain in 2001.

What teams did Ugo Ehiogu play for?

Ehiogu's career began at West Bromwich Albion as a youngster before earning a £40,000 move to Aston Villa.

He turned out to be an inspired signing making over 300 appearances in all competitions.

Nine years after signing for Villa, he came Middlesbrough's record signing in a £8million deal in 2000.

A loan spell at Leeds followed before he signed for Rangers, scoring his only goal for the Scottish side in an Old Firm derby clash against Celtic giving his side a 1-0 win.

His final club was at Sheffield United before retiring in 2009.

Did Ugo Ehiogu win any silverware?

The defender was part of the Villa side that lifted the League Cup in 1996. He started alongside Paul McGrath as Villa put three past at Wembley Leeds to lift the trophy.

He also won the same trophy for Middlesbrough in 2004 following a 2-1 win over Bolton.
