GLEN JOHNSON has agreed a deal with Stoke that could keep him at the club until 2019.

The 32-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-deal at the Bet365 Stadium to end hopes of Crystal Palace or West Ham pouncing on a free.

And he can also trigger a further season at the club if he plays a set number of games next season.

Mark Hughes was keen to tie up the right-back, whose deal was expiring in the summer.

Johnson had not activated an extension with his number of appearances in the current campaign - but Sparky wants him in his plans going forward.

Palace boss Sam Allardyce had wanted Johnson to compete with Joel Ward at right-back, while West Ham asked about him in the January window.

Slaven Bilic wants to strengthen that position and will not turn his attentions back to Manchester City pair Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna, who are also within sight of the end of their deals.

Johnson earned a shock recall to the England squad earlier in the season with his form for Stoke, with Gareth Southgate calling on him for cover but pulled out on the eve of facing Malta through injury.
