And the possibility of bringing in Premier League winner Ranieri is said to be tempting him into making a decision over whether Mazzarri stays in charge at the end of the season.
Ranieri has been out of work since he was sacked by Leicester, but is well respected by the Pozzo family that owns Watford.
The Italian is open to the idea of managing in the Premier League again, but it is unclear whether he would entertain holding any talks while Mazzarri is in position.
But according to the Express, it is Ranieri Pozzo will turn to if he decides to swing the axe.
