Manchester United transfer news: Samir Handanovic could replace David De Gea as Old Trafford chiefs make Inter Milan goalie a summer target

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly looking at Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic as a replacement for David De Gea.

The Red Devils fear their star man could be tempted by a big-money switch to Real Madrid this summer and are already making contingency plans.

SunSport exclusively revealed that Jose Mourinho wants to make De Gea one of United’s top earners by offering him a lucrative new contract.

But the Independent claims Old Trafford chiefs reckon there’s a good chance of the Spain international returning to his homeland.

And they want to avoid any problems in the market by quickly highlighting a number of goalies who would be suitable candidates for the No.1 shirt.

AC Milan youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma is believed to be an option, although any interested party would more than likely be forced to shatter the world transfer record for a shot-stopper.

That leaves 32-year-old Handanovic as United’s most likely option, with Inter Milan unlikely to put up much resistance due to his age and their new-found Chinese money.

However, securing De Gea’s signature is sure to be their top priority, with the ace out of contract in 2019.

SunSport also understands that back-up keeper Sergio Romero will also be offered fresh terms as he enters the final 12 months of his current deal.
