Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger sweats on Alexis Sanchez’s fitness ahead of crucial Premier League clash with Manchester City

Chilean played the full 90 minutes in both matches whilst on international duty after coming off injured against West Brom

ALEXIS SANCHEZ will be assessed ahead of Arsenal's crunch Premier League tie against Manchester City after being maxed out whilst on international duty.

The forward played every minute in both of Chile's matches, despite hobbling off for the Gunners with an ankle injury during their 3-1 defeat.

Arsenal's talisman featured in two World Cup Qualifiers, with a 1-0 defeat to Argentina before scoring the opener in their 3-1 win over Venezuela.

Sanchez was brought off at the Hawthorns in the 78th minute for Alex Iwobi and Arsene Wenger said his ankle was in a bad way.

The Frenchman said: “He was injured from the tackle in the first half.

“It’s a bad tackle. His ankle is in a terrible state.

“He should not have played in the second half. He insisted that he wanted to come out.

“In the first half he was the one who created the chances, many dangerous situations, and you could see in the second half he couldn’t anymore.

"In the end we had to take him off but he should not have even played.”

With the Chilean playing twice for his nation, he is now expected to face a fitness test ahead of their clash with City.

On Sunday, Arsenal and Pep Guardiola's side will go head to head to get back to winning ways, as Wenger's side look to break into the top four.
