Rodwell moved to Sunderland from Manchester City for £10million in August 2014 — and had not won a league match in 39 starts since.

He did enjoy the odd cup success when coming off the bench, but the league drought was well publicised.

The 25-year-old’s victory prior to this was against West Brom way back on May 7, 2013 when Roberto Mancini was his manager at City.

In his final season at the Etihad, he started just one Premier League match — a 0-0 draw at Stoke on September 14, 2013.

He joined Sunderland at the end of the season and then run went on.

His first manager at the Stadium of Light was Gus Poyet, who was replaced with Dick Advocaat and eventually Sam Allardyce came in.

But it was David Moyes, who arrived in the summer, to finally win a match with Rodwell in his starting XI.
