Kane's hat-trick in the Lilywhite's 5-2 win over Southampton on Boxing Day meant he eclipsed Shearer's 36 league strikes in 1995.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the player's absence from training in his press conference this afternoon.

He said: "He’s ill. He’s at home. The doctor was there at his house. We’ll see tomorrow if he can be training here. No big issue.

Poch confirmed Victor Wanyama is also back in training, he said: "We’ll see about the decision. The good news is that he can again train and is available to be selected."

Harry Kane breaks Alan Shearer’s record for Premier League goals scored in calendar year with opening strike against Southampton

Kane has had an incredible year so far, and even more incredible few seasons in the Premier League.

In his 135 appearances he has an astonishing 96 goals, breaking down to 0.71 goals per match.

He has won the Premier League Golden Boot for the last two years running, and Kane won't want to miss the opportunity to score three league hat-tricks in a row against Swansea.

The 24-year-old would be the first player to do so since Liverpool's Jack Balmer way back in 1946.
