Manchester United vs Everton: Romelu Lukaku sets Twitter into a frenzy after missing sitter against his former club

Belgian striker had a golden opportunity to put the Reds two goals ahead but somehow managed to put his shot wide

ROMELU LUKAKU won't get an easier chance to score against his former club.

The £75million Manchester United striker had just Jordan Pickford to beat but somehow managed to scuff his shot wide when it looked easier to score.

The big Belgian, who has been on fire this season, did everything right in the box when he skimmed old team-mate Ashley Williams.

And on his favoured left foot he opened his body and went for the far corner - only for the crowd to be left in disbelief when it went hopelessly past the post.

It was the perfect opportunity for Lukaku to become the third United player to score five goals in his first five Premier League matches.

And Twitter was quick to react to his miss... with one fan pining for Zlatan Ibrahimovic to make his comeback from injury.

One supporter wrote: "Lukaku. Proper waste of space. Where is Ibrahimovic when you need him."

Another said: "How did he miss? Romelu Lukaku goes through on goal but he hits it wide. Shocking miss."

The 24-year-old will be hoping his glaring miss won't come back to haunt his side.

United went ahead in the first five minutes through a stunning strike by right-back Antonio Valencia.
