Alexis Sanchez returns to full training but Paul Merson claims Arsenal will finish SIXTH in Premier League if they don’t sign more players

ALEXIS SANCHEZ has returned to London Colney for full training ahead of the Gunners trip to Stoke on Saturday.

However, despite the return of their star striker, pundit Paul Merson believes that Arsenal will finish sixth if they do not make anymore additions to their side.

The Chilean striker has spent a stint on the sidelines for the Gunners due to an abdominal strain that he picked up in training.

Sanchez missed out on Arsenal's triumphant display against Chelsea in the Community Shield final and was unfit to play against Leicester on the opening day of the season.

Former Arsenal professional Merson does not believe that Arsenal can improve on their fifth place finish from last-term.

Arsene Wenger has introduced just two new players this summer - Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon and Sead Kolasinac from Schalke 04.

When asked by Sky Sports where he believes Arsenal will finish this term, Merson said: "Sixth.

"No I don't (see any improvement). I don't see where the improvement is going to come from.

"There's a saying in life: if you keep on doing the same things, you will get the same results.

"They haven't bought anybody in that's going to make me change my mind.

"Maybe fifth in Coutinho does go to Barcelona because I do think that will dent Liverpool and they're playing in the Champions League.

"But I've got to go sixth."

Arsenal are set to face Stoke on Saturday at the Bet365 Stadium, which will kick off at 17:30.

Sanchez was recently named in the Chile national squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Bolivia.

The speculation regarding Sanchez's future continues as he enters the last year of his contract, but for now he remains in North London.
