Arsene Wenger sends positive message to Gunners fans about new Arsenal signings
The Arsenal manager believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have given the Gunners a much-needed boost
Arsene Wenger believes the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan has provided Arsenal with a positive upswing.
The Gunners looked to be heading towards the intolerable scenario where Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil would leave for nothing at the end of the season.
However, Arsenal opted to sell Sanchez last month in a swap deal that saw Armenia international Mkhitaryan complete a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
The north London side spent a club record £56m fee on Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to bolster their attacking options.
In a twist of fate, Ozil opted to sign a new lucrative long-term contract with Arsenal despite previously being linked with a move to Manchester United.
Arsenal recovered from a 3-1 loss to Swansea City last week to ease to a resounding 5-1 win against Everton at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Speaking to the club’s website about the impact of Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan at the north London club, Wenger said:
“Yes, it’s always when you have new players it gives always a little positive swing.
“It wakes everybody up as well, because there’s suddenly competition so they have to live with that as well.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table but still five points behind Liverpool FC in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
The Gunners will take on leaders Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley later this month.
