Jamie Redknapp: Liverpool FC summer signing becoming ‘real player’ under Jurgen Klopp

The Liverpool FC legend is impressed with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's transformation at Anfield

Jamie Redknapp has hailed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s progress under Jurgen Klopp since swapping Arsenal for Liverpool FC.

The Reds signed the England international in a £40m deal from their top-six rivals on deadline day in the summer transfer window.

Klopp initially used Oxlade-Chamberlain as an impact substitute in September and October before he scored on his first Premier League start in a 4-1 win at West Ham back on 4 November.

The 24-year-old has scored two goals and has made two assists in four starts and four substitute appearances in the Champions League and the Premier League.

Oxlade-Chamberlain teed up fellow summer signing Mohamed Salah for his 20th goal in Liverpool FC’s 4-0 win at Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Former Liverpool FC captain Redknapp admits he has been impressed with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s transformation at Anfield.

“There are vast improvements in his game,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “When he went to Arsenal, for years I felt he stood still.

“He picked up a lot of injuries, and I know what that is like, it can be demoralising, but even when he got fit, he didn’t have that sharpness.

“What I am seeing here is that he is becoming a real player under Jurgen Klopp. He seems to be learning to play in that position he is in.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain spent seven seasons at Arsenal but the versatile midfielder refused to realise his talent like Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott at the Gunners.

The north London outfit won three FA Cups in four seasons with the England international in the Arsenal team.

Liverpool FC will make the trip to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s former club Arsenal in their next Premier League game at The Emirates on Friday night.
