Real Madrid's Luka Modric looking forward to Tottenham reunion in UCL

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is relishing the prospect of facing his former club Tottenham in the Champions League but ex-teammate Ledley King has warned that Spurs can beat anyone on their day.

Tottenham were drawn alongside 11-time European Cup winners Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Cypriot champions Apoel Nicosia in a tough-looking Group H.

Modric spent four seasons at Tottenham before leaving for Madrid in 2012 and has won three Champions League titles since then, including two in the last two seasons.

"I feel really happy," Modric told BT Sport. "I'm looking forward to seeing some people from Tottenham but they'll be tough games of course. I'm looking forward to it."

Former Tottenham captain King was Modric's teammate at Spurs and the pair played together the last time the clubs met in the Champions League, when Madrid won 5-0 over two legs in the 2011 quarterfinal.

"It is a tough group but that's what you expect," King told BT Sport. "This is the Champions League and it's the toughest tournament in football. As a player, you're happy, you're delighted with Real Madrid and Borussia. You want to play the toughest games, the best games available. I'm sure they'll be relishing coming to Wembley, as well.

"Last season we were very much favourites to get out of the group and obviously that didn't happen. This time it'll be tougher but the players will look forward to that. Playing Real Madrid is not an every-year occurrence so they should be really excited. The team should feel that if they play to their capabilities they can beat anyone.

"They're a difficult team to beat, obviously. We played against them in the Champions League for the first time and they're even better now. But when you become a footballer, these are the game you want to play in."

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is also excited by the chance to play against Europe's elite, telling the club's official website: "It's a great draw.

"You expect to play the best in Europe in the Champions League and it's exciting for us. We look forward to these games. You want to test yourself against the best and Real Madrid are the best at the moment."
