Germany draw vs. Australia, Denmark's Bendtner hat trick beats U.S.

Germany were made to work hard for a 2-2 draw with Australia while Nicklas Bendtner scored a hat trick to seal a late win for Denmark over the U.S. in Wednesday's international friendlies.

World champions Germany were given a scare by Australia as Lukas Podolski struck late to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Marco Reus broke the deadlock for Germany in the 17th minute, sliding in from close range after a powerful run by Sami Khedira.

Asian Cup holders Australia equalised five minutes before half-time when James Troisi headed in from Nathan Burns' cross.

Australia completed their comeback early in the second half through Mile Jedinak, who curled in a terrific free kick past goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

However, with nine minutes remaining Lukas Podolski made it 2-2 as he slotted in from Andre Schurrle's cutback.

Denmark inflicted a late 3-2 defeat on the U.S. as Bendtner scored all of his nations goals in an entertaining match at NRGi Park.

The U.S. went in front through Jozy Altidore as the striker received Timothy Chandler's cross before smashing in past goalkeeper Stephan Andersen on 19 minutes.

Denmark levelled before half-time when Nicklas Bendtner tapped in from close range, following a flick from Lasse Vibe at the near post.

Altidore turned provider in the second half to help restore his nation's lead, laying off for Aron Johannsson who tucked into an empty net.

With seven minutes remaining Bendtner scored his second of the game to make it 2-2, scoring from close range with his right foot after a cross was not fully cleared.

Bendtner completed his hat trick and sealed the win for Denmark with seconds remaining, pulling down Christian Eriksen's pass and then shooting into the far corner.

Scotland left it late to beat Northern Ireland 1-0 in the first meeting between the nations since since 2011.

The first half at Hampden Park was goalless as Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern made key saves, denying the likes of Steven Fletcher and Ikechi Anya early on.

But with five minutes left on the clock in the second period Scotland found the breakthrough as Christophe Berra headed in from Matt Ritchie's corner.
