Tim Krul reveals how his long Deadline Day move to Brighton from Newcastle came about

Tim Krul has joined Brighton on a season-long loan from Premier League rivals Newcastle.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper passed a medical with the Seagulls on Thursday afternoon at the club's Elite Football Performance Centre.

Krul is well known to Brighton boss Chris Hughton, who coached the Netherlands international during his spell in charge of Newcastle, which ended in December 2010.

"I know Tim from my time at Newcastle and he is an excellent professional that has a vast amount of experience at both club and international level," said Hughton, in a statement on Brighton's website.

"He's played an extensive amount of games in the Premier League, as well as playing in the Europa League and his experience will also help benefit the other keepers in the squad."

Den Haag-born Krul, who moved to Newcastle at the age of 17, has found himself out of favour under Toon boss Rafa Benitez.

He spent the first half of last term on loan at Ajax before joining fellow Dutch side AZ Alkmaar for the second half of the Eredivisie season.

Krul, who has made 185 first-team appearances for Newcastle, will now provide competition for summer recruit Matt Ryan.

Meanwhile, Brighton's proposed deal to sign Club Brugge's Dutch centre-back Stefano Denswil has collapsed.

A deal was on the verge of completion but Brugge were unable to sanction the deal after discovering an injury to one of the club's other defenders, Benoit Poulain, was worse than originally feared.
