Danny Rose has apologised for the "ill-judged" timing and manner of his comments suggesting he was open to leaving Tottenham.
Sky Sports News understands Rose would consider joining Chelsea or Manchester United before the transfer deadline if Tottenham are prepared to let him go.
On Thursday morning, the England left-back was quoted in The Sun newspaper stating "time is running out" for him to win trophies and he would have "no qualms" telling the Spurs hierarchy how he feels.
However, Rose has now apologised for his comments, which came just days before Spurs' Premier League opener against Newcastle on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
"Having had time to consider my actions, I acknowledge now that the timing and manner of what I said was ill-judged," Rose said in a statement released by his representatives on Friday.
"My words were not mean to offend and for that I would like to apologise to the chairman, manager, my team-mates and the fans. I'd also like to wish the lads good luck ahead of Sunday's game against Newcastle."
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has so far had a good relationship with Rose but the club are yet to make an addition this summer while their top-six rivals have all strengthened, and the 27-year-old had admitted he wanted to see more top players arrive.
The full-back has not asked to leave Spurs and still has four years left on his current contract, after spending a good deal of last season out injured.
Manchester United have said Rose is not a player they are looking to sign this summer and Sky Sports News understands selling him has not been part of Tottenham's plan, having already sold right-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50m.
