Naby Keita is unlikely to sign a new deal with RB Leipzig this summer, according to sporting director, Ralf Rangnick.

Keita has been linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer with two bids of up to £66million rejected by the Bundesliga side, and RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said it is "100 per cent clear" that the midfielder would stay at the club.

The Guinea international, 22, is currently under contract until 2020, but Rangnick revealed he harbours strong doubts that the midfielder will extend his spell at the Red Bull Arena.

"I am not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely," he revealed.

"I can assure you that Naby will be playing with us this season. All other scenarios also depend on how we do this season, how Naby plays himself and so on."

Keita has a €50m (£44.7m) release clause that becomes active next summer and Rangnick is adamant the club want to keep one of their prized assets ahead of their debut campaign in the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp takes the positives from pre-season after Liverpool were beaten 5-4 on penalties by Atletico Madrid following a 1-1 draw in Munich

"It does not matter at all whether it's £67m or £90m,' Rangnick added. "We have not developed for five years so that we can lose one of our best players in the first Champions League season.
