Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has avoided a long-term lay-off after scans revealed his knee injury is not as bad as first feared.
Fellaini had a scan on Sunday after coming off injured during the first half of Belgium's 4-3 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He has avoided cruciate ligament damage but has sprained his Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) which will keep him out for two to three weeks.
After Belgium's win head coach Roberto Martinez feared the United midfielder had picked up a serious injury.
He said: "We are all worried about Fellaini. We fear that there's ligament damage."
He has definitely been ruled out of Belgium's final World Cup Qualifier with Cyprus on Tuesday and Saturday's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield, which is live on Sky Sports Premier League.
He is also likely to miss games against Huddersfield, Tottenham and both Champions League games with Benfica.
The 29-year-old's absence will be a blow for United as Fellaini has been in good form, scoring four goals in his past five games.
It also further limits Jose Mourinho's options in midfield with no timescale placed on Paul Pogba's return to the side.
Liverpool take on Manchester United at Anfield live on Sky Sports Premier League at 11.30am on Saturday.
