Andreas Pereira believes his performances during pre-season helped to convince Jose Mourinho that he is good enough to play in the Premier League next season.
The Belgian-born 21-year-old has featured in all five matches for United after returning from a season-long loan with Granada, where he made 37 appearances last season.
Pereira's five goals and three assists in La Liga could not help save Granada from relegation but the regular first-team football has prepared him well for the new season and he is pleased with his pre-season so far.
"For me, I think it is going well," he said. "I am doing my best, I want to get into the team this season.
"I want to help my team and hopefully we can achieve a lot this season."
Pereira, who has represented Brazil at under 20 and under 23 level, played the final half an hour of United's 1-0 defeat to Barcelona.
United suffered their first pre-season loss as Neymar's first-half strike was enough to secure Barcelona a win in the International Champions Cup.
"It's a great test for us. As a team, how to defend players like that, and definitely we will use this because we have the Champions League this season," Mourinho told MUTV.
"It is a good test for us and we have to know what we have to do against them now when we play against them."
Pereira is one of a number of young players to have been given a run with the first team in America.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe have both featured in matches against Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Scott McTominay and Demetri Mitchell have also featured.
"Probably in a few years Man United will also have half a dozen of these kids [in the team]," said Mourinho.
"I think Scott and Demetri are also kids to have a future in the club."
