Butler vs Hall: Derry Mathews analyses four fights on the Stuart Hall-Paul Butler bill in Liverpool

Paul Butler v Stuart Hall

Paul Butler battles Stuart Hall on a bill packed with local talent on Saturday in Liverpool, so we asked hometown favourite Derry Mathews to analyse four crucial fights.

Butler, who hails from nearby Ellesmere Port, faces Hall in an eliminator for the WBA bantamweight title this Saturday night, live on Sky Sports Arena from 7pm, and four Merseysiders also appear on the undercard at the Echo Arena.

Mathews proudly represented Liverpool as a British and Commonwealth champion before retiring this year and gives his verdict on which fighters will be celebrating in the city this weekend.

Rocky Fielding vs David Brophy

Rocky Fielding, David Brophy

David Brophy is a close friend of mine, but Rocky Fielding is a mate as well, so it's really hard to make a prediction. It's a genuine 50-50 fight and I think it's going to be the fight of the night if I'm honest, and may the best man win.

It will be a bit of a war to start off with, and then after six rounds whoever is in control of the fight is going to take over and win a wide points decision. The fitter and hungrier fighter will win.

Sean Dodd vs Tom Stalker

You don't captain an Olympic team if you cannot box. When people ask me about the fight, I say 'Tom Stalker will not lose a round.' This can be Tom Stalker's easiest night in boxing.

Styles make fights and Sean 'Masher' Dodd is made for him. Dodd will be coming forward in straight lines and Stalker will just stay clever and box his head off all night. He wins a one-sided fight by unanimous decision.

Tom Farrell vs Ohara Davies

Tom Farrell, Ohara Davies

Listen, I think it will be a very, very hard fight. Tom might have to get off the canvas to win it. Ohara will have the home crowd on his back and how much has the Josh Taylor fight knocked out of him?

Derry: Win or bust for Ohara

Ohara Davies could retire if he loses to Tom Farrell, says Derry Mathews

I know Ohara Davies is going to read this and will be on social media tonight giving me abuse, and I like him, but at the same time I won't back against a Scouser, so Farrell wins on points.

Paul Butler vs Stuart Hall

Paul Butler v Stuart Hall

Butler will want to impress his promoter [Eddie Hearn] and his trainer [Joe Gallagher]. I'm expecting a classy boxing performance from him on Saturday night. He's world level, he's proved that by becoming a world champion, and I think he belongs there.

I can see Paul winning this fight convincingly and he could force a late stoppage. Stuart Hall might have a few too many miles on the clock.

Watch Paul Butler against Stuart Hall, with Rocky Fielding battling David Brophy, Tom Farrell against Ohara Davies and Sean Dodd taking on Tom Stalker, from 7pm onSaturday on Sky Sports Arena.
