Leroy Sané has arrived as a superstar in the Premier League

The 21-year-old German star took some time to adjust to England, but he’s been the league’s top winger this season.

Manchester City is on top of the Premier League table through six games, and the biggest difference between last season’s team and this one has been the performances of Leroy Sané. He dominated Crystal Palace on Saturday, scoring a goal and assisting on two more in City’s 5-0 victory.

Sané’s goal — his fifth of the season in all competitions — showed off his pace, work rate and skill all at once. The entire Palace back line was helpless as he surged by them, played a flick over the head of Scott Dann to himself and poked home.

Sané went on to set up two goals in the second half with his trademark direct runs down the left flank and drilled crosses, one for Raheem Sterling and another for Sergio Aguero.

Last season, Sané didn’t enter the Premier League with this type of confidence. Pep Guardiola eased him into the lineup, and his performances during the first half of the season were poor. But Sané eventually sorted out what Guardiola expected him to do and got used to the physicality of the Premier League as well. He finished last season strong, and entered this campaign with expectations that he’d be a key attacker for City.

So far, Sané is living up to those expectations. And at just 21 years old, he still has a lot of time to improve. Sané has already been the best winger in England his season, so who knows how good he can become in the future.
