USA vs. Costa Rica 2017: Start time, TV channel for 2018 Word Cup qualifier

Coming off a big Gold Cup win, it’s time for the USMNT to improve its World Cup qualification standings.

The United States men’s national team is coming off a big triumph in winning the Gold Cup, its first tournament under manager Bruce Arena in his second stint in charge of the team. Now the men need to take that momentum and use it in World Cup qualifying, because as the Americans get set to face Costa Rica, the USMNT needs to improve its standing in the Hex round of CONCACAF qualifying.

The USMNT currently sit in third place in the last guaranteed qualification spot but only one point ahead of Panama in the playoff spot and three points ahead of Honduras in a non-qualification place in the table. The United States needs to start piling on points fast to guarantee a spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, starting with a win over Costa Rica in New Jersey.

Costa Rica has been one of the best sides in the Hex round, though, losing only one match out of six so far and owning a 4-0 win over the USMNT earlier in qualifying. That match was the final straw for Jurgen Klinsmann’s tenure in charge of the U.S. national team — but it also served as a turning point for the USMNT, which hasn’t lost in qualifying since then. This is going to be a very different match than the tilt back in November, and the U.S. will be much more confident in a positive result this time around.
