Everton loan players recap: Pennington returns from injury

Everton defender Matthew Pennington has finally returned to action from an ankle injury that has kept him out for Leeds United since the opening weekend of the Championship. He was an unused substitute as his side beat Ipswich Town 3-2, who had Callum Connolly on the bench.

Midfielder Kieran Dowell was powerless in preventing Nottingham Forest from slipping to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa. Dowell continues to play well but his Reds have found goals hard to come by recently.

Youngster Joe Williams picked up an early booking in an otherwise good performance for Barnsley, and his team had looked to have snatched a late equalizer away at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 91st minute, but the home team was able to score an even later goal to get all three points.

Sunderland’s misery continued as they lost again, this time to Cardiff City. City are currently on top of the league tied with Leeds and Wolves at 20 points from nine games played. Tyias Browning played the whole game for the Black Cats, picking up a second half booking as the right center back in a three-man backline. Brendan Galloway was an unused substitute.

Bolton Wanderers lost at home to Brentford 3-0, with Antonee Robinson playing left wingback. The youngster was taken off after 75 minutes. Liam Walsh did not feature for Birmingham City in their 1-1 draw away at Derby County, their first game since Harry Redknapp was sacked.

In Belgium, Anderlecht have recovered from their early season stumbles and won again over the weekend against Waasland-Beveren. Henry Onyekuru sparked the visitors when he came on at the break, leading the defending Belgian champions to a comeback 2-1 victory. Despite multiple shots, the Nigerian forward failed to find the target as he warmed up for a Champions League game this week against Celtic.
