For all the good work Steve Walsh and Bill Kenwright have done during this summer’s transfer window, they’ve left perhaps the biggest need of all frighteningly late.

With mere hours remaining to sign players, there is still no starting striker through the doors at Finch Farm, and teams are increasingly willing to play hardball with any potential targets, and that’s now the case with Leicester City and Jamie Vardy.

According to The Mirror, the Foxes are set to veto any move for their star English attacker, to Chelsea or Everton.

Leicester forward Vardy turned down a move last summer to Arsenal, but both Chelsea and Everton believe he is open to a new challenge.

However, the Foxes are standing firm and it is highly unlikely the 30-year-old will move on before Thursday night's deadline.

In a series of transfer setbacks for the Blues, this is merely the latest one, but particularly damaging. At this stage of August, signing someone of Vardy or Diego Costa’s quality would have been nothing short of a coup.

However, thanks to the Toffees’ tardiness, they’re left chasing shadows and relying on desperate bids for cut rate players like Stefano Okaka, Raul Jimenez, and Kenneth Zohore.

Olivier Giroud, our hearts pine for you.
