Ross Barkley is likely getting sold somewhere during this transfer window, but it will not be to Chelsea for £25m, as reported by The Times.

The ever-reliable Paul Joyce, writing behind a paywall, says that Chelsea’s bid that came in late yesterday for the currently injured Barkley has been turned down as Everton are looking for something in the £40m range.

Tottenham Hotspur are the other side that have been constantly linked with Barkley, but their notoriously tight-fisted Chairman Daniel Levy is likely to wait until the closing moments of the transfer window before under-bidding for the player.

Everton do run the risk of getting even less for the player the long this transfer saga is drawn out. Barkley has refused to sign a new deal as he enters the last year of his current contract, and with his hamstring injury that required surgery expected to keep him out until December, it might be a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’ for other Premier League teams should the Toffees not cash in on him before deadline day tomorrow.
