Everton reject forward loan interest

Olympiakos have been turned down in their approach for Everton forward Kevin Mirallas. The Greek side were reportedly in talks with the Blues to take the Belgian on loan for the season, but Everton are now being reported by Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN) as having walked away from the negotiations.

Mirallas was spotted on Saturday boarding a flight to Belgium after being dropped from the Everton side that traveled to London to take on Chelsea. Manager Ronald Koeman later confirmed that he was not part of the squad due to a disciplinary issue.

The Blues looked impotent up front in a 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge, and after the game Koeman refused to comment on Mirallas’ future at Goodison Park, replying with an “I don’t know” when asked if the forward would leave during the transfer window.

Mirallas signed a three-year deal towards the end of the last season in what had seemed a puzzling move then, especially with the influx of talent expected over the summer. However, what this does is strengthen Everton’s hand in any transfer conversations for this window and beyond.

Earlier, Koeman had said that Mirallas was benched for not handling the reduced playing time well.

“He was out because he is struggling to deal with moments in the season and was disappointed.

“Everybody can be disappointed.

“But I expect from everybody to be part of the team.

“If somebody is showing that he is disappointed and his attitude is not the same then I have to make decision.”
