Everton will wear their new third kit in just the second game of the Premier League season, away at Manchester City on Monday.

The Toffees had worn their thirds in last season’s trip to take on City as well, who will be in their home sky blues. The third kit last season was the yellow and blue affair, which the Blues parlayed into a fortunate 1-1 draw at the Etihad with the Mancunians dominating the game.

Of course, City will be smarting from the last time Pep Guardiola pitted his wits against Ronald Koeman, with Everton running out 4-0 winners in one of the Blues’ best performances last season.

Gylfi Sigurdsson could make his debut for Everton on Monday too, with Koeman saying that the Iceland international would feature this coming week. Everton travel to City and then are off to Croatia for the return leg of the Europa League playoff against Hajduk Split on Thursday, before returning to England for a Sunday trip to London to play Premier League reigning champions Chelsea.

The third kit had a bit of a hasty reveal after it had been leaked on the internet, with the club using players’ social media accounts to show off the features of the outfit.

Speaking of the purple kit, it appears fans are either in love with it, or dead set against it. The last time Everton wore vertical stripes was in the 1997-98 season, and the purple stripes is a first for the club.
