Wednesday’s Toffee Bites: Everton legend Tim Cahill is a free agent

In today’s links: The kids are headed to Cyprus, Walcott to Everton and the return of Jo?

Everton v Fulham - Premier League

For the generation of Evertonians currently in their late-teens to mid-twenties, Tim Cahill is the Blue legend of their child hood. His fearlessness in the air, trademark celebrations and passion for both club and country formed so many young people’s love of Everton. I know that’s what he meant to me.

Cahill and Melbourne City announced on Tuesday that the attacking midfielder was leaving the club by mutual consent. Where the Aussie goes from here isn’t clear. He played a big role in qualifying Australia for the upcoming World Cup. One would think that the competition could serve as the 38-year-old’s footballing swan song.

The Socceroo will get a job somewhere. His reason for leaving Melbourne seems to be a lack of minutes. He certainly won’t find those minutes at Everton, if that’s what you were hoping, but another A-League team will almost snap him up for the publicity ahead of the World Cup. Good luck Tim! And, by the way, Happy Birthday!
