Everton set to try and make Sean Dyche new manager within 24 hours

The new day has brought some breaking news courtesy of Sky Sports, and while it isn’t necessarily surprising, it does represent potential progress in terms of Everton Football Club’s search for a new leader.

The Burnley manager celebrated five years in charge of his current club just yesterday, marking the occasion with a 1-0 win over Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United. Still only 46 years old, Dyche has led the Clarets to two separate Premier League promotions during his tenure at Turf Moor.

It isn’t the first time that the former Chesterfield player has been linked with Goodison Park recently. Speaking after the win over the Magpies, Dyche did little to firmly dispel the rumours.

We take each game as it come and we work on that, moving forward again. We keep that clarity of thought and I keep that clarity of thought myself.

A practical leader, Sean Dyche prefers to send his sides out in a 4-5-1 (or 4-4-1-1) formation which seems to suit this Toffees’ group reasonably well. Dyche currently has Burnley in 7th place - just one goal away from overtaking Liverpool in the European qualification places.

Let’s be clear: Dyche is not a sexy appointment, nor is he likely the “best” manager available on the open market. That label probably falls to Thomas Tuchel or Carlo Ancelotti.

That said, what the Blues need right now is not a rebuild or a proverbial electrical shock - they need a reset. Everton are in the relegation places, but given the talent at hand, all is not lost - yet.

Sean Dyche can provide solidity, work rate, and results. All of which Everton have been lacking. Sam Allardyce can provide the reset, and Marco Silva can provide the results. But Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright will be looking for a bit of practicality, and if Sky Sports are to be believed, they may have found it.
