Everton won’t exercise option to buy Enner Valencia

In the midst of a flurry of striker-related transfer rumors, the Liverpool Echo are reporting today that Ronald Koeman and Everton will not turn Enner Valencia’s loan from West Ham into a permanent deal.

Everton are ready to pass up on the chance to sign Enner Valencia on a permanent deal.

The Blues signed the 27-year-old on a season-long loan in August with the option of buying him from West Ham United in a transfer worth around £11million.

But the ECHO understands that after weeks of talks, Everton are in the process of walking away from negotiations.

The 27 year old Ecuadorian was fairly effective in his Everton career, mostly being used as an impact substitute or a spot starter. Valencia had 3 goals and 1 assist in 780 minutes for the Blues.

While not necessarily a poor return from Valencia’s minutes, it’s likely that the Everton brass decided it made more sense to invest the funds elsewhere, be it on a younger player or on a forward who can be relied upon more heavily.

There’s also Oumar Niasse to consider. The Senegalese striker is already owned by the club, and enjoyed a fruitful spell at Hull City where he was on loan since January. It could be beneficial to all sides if Niasse gets a full preseason under Ronald Koeman to prove his worth to the club before ultimately deciding his long term future.

Either way, Everton fans will be appreciative of Valencia’s tenure at the club. As the season wore on, the hard-working forward became increasingly popular, and even unseated Ross Barkley in the finale against Arsenal.
