Morgan Schneiderlin to miss the Merseyside derby

Ronald Koeman has confirmed Morgan Schneiderlin will miss Saturday’s trip to Liverpool with a calf injury.

Schneiderlin was forced off during the first half of Everton’s 4-0 win over Hull a fortnight ago and was immediately ruled out for two to three weeks.

The French midfielder has been working hard at USM Finch Farm to try and get himself fit but has sadly run out of time.

Schneiderlin is also likely to miss Tuesday’s trip to his former club Manchester United on Tuesday but could return for the visit of Leicester next weekend.

Speaking about Schneiderlin, Koeman said:

“Morgan is getting better now. He is still not available for the weekend and I don’t think he will be available for the game against Manchester United on Tuesday, but we have good hope that he will be available for the Leicester game.”

The news is yet another injury blow for Everton after a torrid international break that saw Koeman robbed of three first-team players.

Seamus Coleman is, of course, out for the foreseeable future with a broken leg suffered playing for Ireland against Wales while international teammate James McCarthy aggravated a hamstring injury in the warm-up.

To cap it all off Ramiro Funes Mori suffered a knee injury playing for Argentina and is likely to require surgery.

Koeman added:

“Funes is not good. “They checked him on Wednesday and we will have a second opinion on Monday - but we expect him to have surgery on the meniscus in his knee. That means that it would be the end of the season for him.”
