Talent isn't enough to make Henrikh Mkhitaryan a success at Manchester United, says club legend Gary Neville.

The Armenian, who came to Old Trafford with high hopes from Borussia Dortmund, is being linked to a move to Arsenal as part of a deal for Alexis Sanchez.

And Neville says Jose Mourinho can't be blamed for supporting such a trade.

"He's really talented player but you need more than talent," said Neville on Sky Sports.

Mourinho showed his feelings on the matter in his selections for last night's 3-0 win over Stoke in which he left Mkhitaryan out of the squad amid speculation of the cash-plus-player switch.

"He has shown in glimpses and you think he's coming but then he goes missing," Neville continued.

"The clearest sign that something's happening with Sanchez is that Mkhitaryan isn't playing, that he's not in the squad and Jose was happy to volunteer that information to us.

"He wanted to keep the player clear, saying that he does rate him but I think he'd happily swap him in any deal for Alexis Sanchez - anybody would."

Mkhitaryan is said to be mulling over the move to Arsenal, although he is not desperate to escape Old Trafford despite falling out of favour with Mourinho.

United would also pay the Gunners £30m for Sanchez, whose contract is up at the end of the season.
