Arsene Wenger claims Wembley feels like Arsenal's home from home - despite it playing host to their biggest rivals.

Wenger takes the Gunners to the national stadium on Saturday afternoon to face Tottenham in a vitally important north London derby.

Arsenal sit in sixth place, four points behind Spurs, and can ill afford a defeat if they want to keep their hopes of making it into the Champions League spots alive.

But Wenger insists Arsenal will not feel like they are heading to the home of their fiercest rivals when the two sides collide.

Asked if he prefers the north London derby being played at Wembley over White Hart Lane, Wenger said: “Yes, because we have a good record there.”

Arsenal have not lost at Wembley since the Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham in 2011 - and have won nine consecutive matches at the venue since.

Wenger believes that will help Arsenal will feel comfortable in front of the 80,000-plus crowd.

“[Playing at Wembley] has a little weight in it because we feel we have a good level of performance there," he said.

“It won’t feel too much ‘away’ in that situation.”

Wenger claims that he still gets just as psyched for derby day as he did when he first moved to Arsenal - but this game holds an added importance due to the league positions.

“[I have] huge passion before the game," he said.

“I worked with Pat Rice for many years, he of course got me very quickly on that territory.

“It is a game that is a bit more charged emotionally. This season if you look at the table for us it’s a very important game.”

He added: “You have to find a good balance between rational and emotional.

“You have not to let the emotions take over.

“At the end of the day it is down to making good decisions on the pitch.”
