For plenty of Arsenal and Liverpool fans, the name Thomas Lemar was uppermost in their minds on transfer deadline day.

The Monaco midfielder is one of the hottest properties in European football right now, and the 21-year-old was wanted by both Premier League clubs on the final day of the summer transfer window.

But neither got him.

Liverpool felt as though they were at the head of the queue to sign him, but they seemed to cool their interest once they brought in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.

The Gunners made their move for the youngster, agreeing a £90m fee, but they didn't leave enough time to complete the deal.

All of that meant that when the Monaco man scored two goals - the first of them stunning - against the Netherlands on Thursday night, supporters of those clubs were getting all the feels.
