Manchester United will battle Spurs for Real Madrid's 16-year-old striker Pedro Ruiz, according to reports.

The Independent say Ruiz's goalscoring record for Madrid and Spain's under-16 sides this season have caught the attention of the two Premier League clubs.

Ruiz only joined Madrid last year but United are confident they can lure him to England to further his development.

Everton and Southampton are also said to be interested in the teenager.

But Aubameyang appears to have his sights set on Spain which is a huge blow for United and their transfer plans this summer.

Chong revealed earlier in the year that he was considering whether or not to remain at the Eredivisie outfit, but it appears that United's impressive facilities have convinced the forward that his future lies in Manchester.

"It was my intention to stay at Feyenoord, but no plan was made for me," he told Elf Voetbal.

"When I said I wanted to leave, they made a plan. That was too late. At Manchester United I had a better feeling. You can feel it immediately when you walk in a club."

Van Gaal embarrasses himself in press conference

Louis van Gaal was left red-faced after not realising many of his Manchester United squad are serial title winners, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.

With Leicester on the brink of completing an extraordinary title triumph if they can win at Old Trafford on Sunday, Van Gaal was asked how strange it was for United to be playing host to the potential champions.

Defending United trailing Leicester by a whopping 17 points, Van Gaal said few of his current squad had won the title, claiming goalkeeper David De Gea - who won the title in 2013 – had not been a Premier League champion.

And Van Gaal even claimed veteran duo Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick had only won the title "once, maybe more than once" - both have won it five times.

“The players who are now playing, they are not used to being champions,” said Van Gaal.

“I don't think Matteo Darmian is used to being a champion and David De Gea was never champion, so I don't agree with the way you make the question.

“Memphis Depay was a champion last year [with PSV Eindhoven] so not many players... Rooney, Carrick, they have been the champions once, or maybe more than once."

The Reds need a victory to maintain hopes of a Champions League place and Van Gaal warned City to keep the title-race champagne on ice until next Saturday, when Everton visit the Foxes' King Power Stadium lair.

“We have to beat them because we’re still in the race for fourth spot,” said the United boss.

“We can’t allow them to be champions this weekend at Old Trafford. I think they shall be champions a week later, so we won’t spoil the party, only postpone it a little bit."
